Our residential UV water filter system is ideal for areas that rely on untreated water like stored rain water and ground (river/bore/spring) waters. For untreated water, 3 filters must be utilized to achieve the right clarity of above 70% UVT. The 3 filters include;

• • 5 micron pleated paper cartridge to eliminate silts present in ground, stored water and organic material in rainwater.
• • Carbon for taste as well as to eliminate sprays and odours.
• • 1 micronmelt blown to eliminate mud and ensure that the water has a clarity level of more than 1 NTU before it gets to the UV chamber.

The correct UV lamp power to ensure a safe dosage.This is carefully balanced and based on water flow and chamber length and volume. The maximum water processing capacity for residential systems is 100 Lpm (Litres per minute).

• • A 40 watt lamp is sufficient for a small house or batch with 2 or 3 occupants.
• • A80 watt lamp is more satisfactory for larger houses with a couple of showers and 5 or more occupants.

We are often asked about how long filter cartridges last before they need replacement. This is dependent on the quality of water that enters the system. So if you keep your gutters clean, don’t have gravel roads around the property (which cover collection areas with dust) and keep your water tank clean then the filter media will last longer. The average for filter life is 6 to 9 months.

It should be noted that filters are designed to remove from water and store/hold contaminants and therefore cannot be washed out. The exception to this is the pleated paper filter that can be washed with a hose once or twice. Filters must be changed together, do not mix dirty with clean.

If your water is hard then it may be sensible to invest in a salt brine softener.
