UV Water Systems NSF Certification Program

Many of you will be aware that UV Water Systems Limited has been working for a number of years now on gaining NSF certification for its UV filtration and sterilisation systems. We are delighted to advise that we now have had a number of our residential and commercial systems and chambers that have received NSF Test PASSES for NSF 55 class A & Class B and NSF 42 Chlorine. In due course these products will be issued with their respective CERTIFICATES.

Our NSF Certification Program is ongoing with further tests being conducted under NSF 53 and NSF 42 and NSF 401.

We have been advised by NSF international that we are the first company in the world to receive multiple certifications on Point of Entry ‘completely finished’ UV & Filtration Systems. This is a massive thing for a small New Zealand company. What this means to our clients is that you should have confidence that you are dealing with an ethical company that has spent years and a great deal of money to have its systems and claims independently verified. This verification carried out by the world’s foremost certification organisation. NSF is recognised by almost all the world Government and Health departments. To obtain one certification is hard enough but to gain multiple per system has never been done until now. The preparation and design has taken years and the testing has taken 8 months to date. We will keep our valued clients and installers up to date with progress.

Currently we envisage that these systems will be available toward the latter part of this year.

Holme Station Timaru

Hi Stewart

As discussed on our call this morning, I now require a service kit (SKB3) for my B3 stainless steel system.

I bought a B3 system from you in October 2016 for my property (Holme Station Homestead), located in the Hunter Hills, 15kms south-west of Timaru (see attached photos).

I am fortunate to be on the Downlands supply from Timaru District Council (TDC), which gives me rights to uplift up to 2,000 litres/day. The Downlands system was established in 1947 and supplies 78,000 hectares around Timaru environs, Waimate and MacKenzie regions. We have 45,000 litres standing supply on the property, and we pump from tanks to house through the filter system.

With all of the dairy conversions in the area, the river and bore water supplies feeding the Downlands system have been stressed considerably. Just this last week, TDC declared they had only 4 days supply in reservoir, despite 6 weeks of heavy continuous rain. The amount of sediment bought into the municipal reservoirs has overwhelmed their own filtration capacity.

We have learned that any contamination of the Downlands system is not notified to the downstream customers for 7-10 days as the TDC attempts to confirm the problem, locate the problem, determine remedial action and repair the problem. For this reason, our 45,000 litres standing supply is at risk of contamination.

Just this week, we found our Downlands supply had been cut off for several days, as the primary feed pipe into the area had been severed by the heavy river flows at a river crossing.

The B3 has provided exceptional service over the last 2 years since installation, without any faults or concerns. We did find our in-house water pressure jumped up after installation, and so we retrospectively fitted a pressure reduction valve to bring pressure down to 65 psi. Shower pressures in our 6 showers is exceptional. We have also fitted an isolation valve immediately before the filter system, as we had found a leak inside (filling a toilet cistern) could trigger the automatic pump supplying the house, which had the contingent risk of pushing all 45,000 litres storage into the house during periods of no occupancy..

We now have a completely secure water supply system for the house. Our guests regularly remark on the exceptional taste of our drinking quality of the water at tap, and many have asked about our system.

I look forward to seeing you around 10:30am this morning

Cheers

Gareth Morgan

Water - one such word that is vitally crucial to all life forms. Not only humans and animals, but even plants, ecosystems and appliances are equally in need of water to grow and function properly. Indeed, water is an imperative need of everyone and everything on the earth. You might know that human body is roughly 60% water and we all tend to lose a significant amount of it throughout the day that needs to be fulfilled by drinking pure and clean water.

By drinking purified water, you can reap all the benefits of having a toned figure, hydrated skin and good health that you deserve to be. In fact drinking the purified water is the best and simplest way to improve the lives of yourself and the others breathing in your household.

Here are just a few of the many reasons why water purification should be an integral part of your life.

A water purifier provides better smelling, cleaner looking and nicer tasting water by just removing chlorine and bacterial contaminants.

A small expense in buying a water purifier can result into having a good source of pure and healthy water that costs much less than bottled water.

Water filters also remove the lead from drinking water, hence preventing this harmful substance from entering the body and causing the curse to the health.

A good quality water filter can significantly remove treacherous contaminants from drinking water while retaining healthy mineral deposits that work to balance the pH of drinking water.

A water purifier system greatly reduces the risk of colon cancer, rectal cancer and bladder cancer by removing chlorine from drinking water.

Drinking filtered and purified water protects the body from contaminated ailments and leads to overall greater health.

Water filters reduce the risk of gastrointestinal disease by removing cryptosporidium and giardia from it.

A water purifier also provides clean water for cooking, planting, washing at the convenience of tap water.

Cleaner water also improves the shine of your clothes and the longevity of your home appliances like washing machine, dish washer, geyser etc.

Water filters provide the healthiest water for children developing immune systems.

A water purifier works as a last line of defense between the body and the toxins that are there in drinking water.

Tips To Consider When You Should Change the Water Filter Cartridge

With increasing water pollution, to drink potable water directly is not safe as it contains too many impurities. Therefore, water filter system has become an essential commodity for every home, office, hotel, mall, hospital and other places where there is need for potable water. As after a period of time, any machine needs repair or maintenance, similarly, water filter cartridges also need to be replaced or changed in water filters to maintain the consistent taste and continuous supply of pure water. If you don’t replace it at the right time and tend to overuse, you won’t get pure water and the smell of water would also be changed. However, it is an important thing to remember, how often these cartridges should be changed. There is no fixed period for changing the cartridges because it varies with various factors.

Factors on which water filter cartridge replacement depends:

The type of water filter installed at your place

Brand of water filter

Indicator in water filter

Quality of water in your location

Frequency and quantity of water usage

Level of water pretreatment

All these factors affect the working and life expectancy of water filter cartridges. For example, if your locality is supplied with hard water, then scale buildup process on the cartridge will be faster in comparison to soft water. If a large amount of water is used per day, it can be presumed that more water is needed to pass through cartridges that will eventually reduce the lifetime of a cartridge. So, the replacement of cartridges in water filter does not depend on a single thing, its life expectancy depends on the aforementioned factors. Now, the question arises, how many kinds of water filter cartridges are present in a water filter and do all cartridges need to be changed at the same time. So let’s take a view.

Type of Water Filter Cartridges

Generally, there is only one kind of cartridge which is known as a sediment pre-filter cartridge. Generally, it is replaced after every six or nine months. Some water filters also contain another cartridge called as a sub-micron post filter cartridge. The presence of the second cartridge depends on the type and brand of water filter. This cartridge can work perfectly for nine to twelve months and after that, it also needs to be replaced. Now when you have idea of why cartridge needs to be changed, what factors affect the life expectancy of a cartridge and how many kinds are there, there are some tips for you which will help you to know when you need to change these cartridges.

Some tips to consider for deciding when you need to change water filter cartridges

When you start noticing the change in water taste, it is high time to replace the cartridge

When water starts to smell different, you should think about water filter cartridge replacement

The flow of water is reduced, when cartridge is clogged. However, when this happens, you filter is doing fine but to speed up the flow, you might need to change the cartridge.

When the indicator starts to highlight for changing water filter cartridge.

If you notice any of these factors, call the customer care of your water filter company and ask to check the water filter or to change the water filter cartridge. However, renowned water filter companies also do a routine check up after a fixed period of time. But that does not mean, you filter cartridge needs to be changed only when professionals visit for service. You also need to keep a check on the above tips and factors to assure that you are getting pure and odorless water with perfect taste.

Things You Must Do Before Choosing a Water Filter for Your Home

Everyone wants drinking water that not only looks clean but tastes and smells as it should. In your well water, there may be numerous contaminants that cause the water to taste bad and be undrinkable. Clean pure water free of all pollutants is not only needed for drinking but also for a bathing, showering and cooking. A whole House Water Filter addresses the water issues and gives homeowners safe, clean and pure well water.

Do you want to ensure the water you use is free from harmful elements and bacteria? You should get a sophisticated advanced UV filtration system that is capable of making your water completely potable and usable for all household uses.

So in this blog we will give you some useful information regarding the types of pollutants your well water may contain, how a filter does work to remove harmful things from your water and make it completely potable. And all these help you choose a filter perfect for your well water.

Why You Need To Filter Your Water-

Water that comes straight from a well is not safe for consumption. Leaching from the soil over and around the well that dissolves into the water can produce disease-causing microorganisms in groundwaters. This coupled with the undesirable compounds usually found in ground waters all add to the problems associated with Well, Stream, bore and lake waters.

In fact, several studies have shown the well water may be contaminated if:

• Well casings or caps are improperly installed

• Well casings break

• Contaminated surface water enters the well

Know What Is In Your Water-

The age, design, installation, and condition of your well are what determine contaminants seeping into your water supply. So it is crucial to test your well water from time to time to learn about what kinds of contaminants the water in your well contains. Experts suggest testing the water two to three times every year.

Choosing the right water filters for your home help you remove and resolve the following water issues that may be present in your well water:

• Smell

• Taste

• Odor

• Contaminants

• Bacteria

• Parasites

How Does A Filter Make Your Water Potable?

A water filter can be installed with your water treatment system for well water. The water filter system may have a Sub-Micron Post Filter and a UV filter. They are option components used to remove impurities from the water. A filter makes your water potable by removing the followings from your water:

• Pesticides

• Viruses

• Inorganic compounds

• Organic compounds

• Sickness and disease

Things to Be Considered Before Choosing the Best Home Water Filter System

Home water filters are experiencing popularity like never before due to our polluted water systems. It's important to know that not all home water filters are the same. By the time you finish reading this article, you will know how to select a great home water filter for a fantastic price. We will also answer a question that many people ask "How Do under bench Water Filters Work"?

How Do Water Filters Work?

To reduce contaminants from water, filters can use many different elements. Charcoal is a very common element used in the filtration process. So we'll use it in this example. Water passes over the charcoal which is in a sandy form. As the water flows over the charcoal the charcoal catches large water contaminants to stop them from passing through the water. It's almost like stream water passing over rocks and coming out more pure when emerging on the other side. That's how a basic filter works. While charcoal does a credible job, it's not perfect, and other measures need to be used. Some filters employ a system that attracts contaminants using a process of positive and negative charges (not unlike the way a magnet works) that causes the contaminants bond to break away from the water. Some home water filters use a combination of both. I hope this answers the basic question of how do water filters work.

What Are The Best Types Of Home Water Filters To Purchase?

Home water filters come at all shapes, sizes, and prices. We'll discuss those issues a little later. It's very important that any filter you are thinking of buying uses a combination of carbon filtration, ion exchange, and sub-micron filtration. This is the latest and absolute best type of filtration system you can buy. Before you purchase any filter ask if the filter employs the method mentioned here. If it doesn't, you may want to continue your search.

What Kind Of Filters Are Best For Home Use?

After having made sure you found the right technology (as mentioned above) you're ready for the next step. Homes water filters start at its basic level of a countertop water filter that sits on your kitchen countertop and attaches directly to your kitchen faucet. You also can purchase a filter that is known as an under sink model. This performs the same functions as the first model mentioned. The difference is that it is installed under your sink. People go this route to save space on their countertops. If you are worried about showering, bathing, washing your clothes in the contaminated water you may want to consider a whole house water filter system. This system attaches to the source of your water supply and filters all the water coming into your home from the kitchen sink to your shower and bath water and your washer. It eliminates the need for the units mentioned above.

In conclusion, no matter which of the home water filters you decide on, make sure they employ the technology mentioned above. This way you'll know you're absolutely safe. Many times you can overpay for a filter if you are not careful. It's worth a little extra effort to purchase directly from a reputable manufacturer.

A boil water notice is being issued for Levin residents due to muddy water.

Levin residents are being told to boil water for brushing their teeth, drinking, and making ice following heavy rain. Even the home coffee machine isn't exempt.

The Horowhenua District Council issued the notice on Friday night, following heavy rain on Thursday.

The water plant was struggling to meet demand and manage the treatment of muddy water from the Ohau River, it read.

Until further notice, residents connected to the Levin water supply were advised to boil water before using it for:

* Drinking (including making of sachet juice/drinks)
* Making ice
* Food preparation
* Brushing teeth
* Preparing infant/toddler formula.

Electric jugs with a cut-off switch could be used as long as they were full and the water allowed to come to the boil and switch off automatically. It was not advised to hold the switch down to increase the boiling time.

Water can also be placed a clean metal pan and brought to a rolling boil for one minute.

Boiled water should be covered and allowed to cool in the same container.

Residents were also asked to reduce their water use wherever possible to help the treatment plant cope better.

People with severely compromised immune systems, babies, pregnant women, and some elderly may be at increased risk and should seek advice from health care providers before drinking the water.

Anyone with specific health concerns should consult a doctor or Healthline 0800 611 116.

Food businesses were asked to ensure staff were using hand sanitiser after washing their hands, use commercially made ice, use bottled water for post-mix soft drink machines and ensure coffee machines were boiling water to 100 degrees.

Once the notice was lifted, businesses would need to ensure they flushed, cleaned and sanitised all equipment with water line connections.

Mud & silt and rust is in almost all of Aucklands reticulation. Removing this debri then taking out the chlorine ... easy. Take out the debri with a 1 micron melt blown cartridge. Then take all the chlorine out with two carbon cartridges. Then finally polish the water before sending into your house. Using 10" or 20" Jumbo Filters with 1" piping, you deliver great flow rates to the shower and taps. No more twindling thumbs waiting for the underbench filter tap to fill the jug or spud pot.

How about controlling your own fate, by having your own filter system? Other wise you are relying on others to save 20 liters a day, OR ELSE you will have to BOIL IT!

All this rain has 'swamped' their filtration / treatment facilities with too much silt washed into the reservoirs by deluges of rain.
